Excellent summary of the situation. And I'm sure you've also heard of Zionists saying "there's no equivalence between Israeli and Hamas military" whereby that statement of theirs alone serves as a self-refutation on their part -- there absolutely is indeed no equivalence between Judeo-Nazi anal desecration league (ADL) savagery and anti-imperialist resistance.
Great writing . You give hope along with other Jewish writers there is some light at the end of this dirty dark sewer of a tunnel we find ourselves in. Thanks for being human and choosing compassion over tribalism. It’s a great act of personal sacrifice .
For a bloody cult, murdering its own is being justified under the guise of “sacrifice”.
But rest assured, the outcome is but one, mass murder and Genocide.
They can call it Hannibal directive, or give it some other biblical bullshit name, but the result is still the same, mass murder and the proliferation of hate and rancor.
I, too, find it difficult to keep finding words for the depth and pitch darkness of Israeli barbarity. It is tragic to learn that these captive Israelis were meant to be freed. There is simply no comparison between the inherent moral fiber of the Resistance compared with the constantly mocking, undermining Israeli actions meant to torture and provoke them at every twisted step of the way. It's painful to even read. I so admire your heartfelt courage and dedication and the strength it must take to search out and gather these heart breaking facts and then sit and write these columns over all these months that has already cost you dearly.
My deepest gratitude to you for your commitment to bearing witness to such suffering and speaking Truth, and by example giving us all greater strength and courage for the sake of our brothers and sisters in Gaza/Palestine.
It would have been great if these six Israelis could have gone free and in turn many Palestinians could have tasted their freedom after years and decades in Israeli dungeons, but the Israeli leadership clearly doesn't want anything, even the freedom and well being of its own people, to come in the way of its ongoing genocide.
Thank you so much reading and all your support, Liana. I really appreciate it.
Lower your monthly subscription rate and you've got a deal. You will get more paid subscribers. Everyone's tightening their belts of necessity because of the war tax, otherwise know as "inflation", we are all paying. You are fortunate you had an income to lose. You substack is important. Please protect it by asking for less, thereby accruing more paid subscriber.
Despite turning on paid subscription, I don't intend to put anything here behind a paywall. Everything I write here will remain free forever. I didn't start this project for any reason other than to share what I know about Palestine to help my readers see the reality of the issue.
If they are willing to pay, it helps me a great deal, especially after I lost my job, however, if they don't buy a paid subscription, it's still not a problem as long as they benefit from my writing for I firmly believe the injustices against the Palestinians have gone on for so long simply because a vast majority of people have no idea what's been going on in Palestine. I hope this humble effort helps my readers look at the matter a bit better.
With regards to the pricing, I am offering multiple options. Other than the 3 tiers on Substack, my Ko-fi page (which I link to at the bottom of all of my articles) has three more tiers of monthly subscriptions where the lowest tier is just $5. Readers are also free to make a one-time payment on my Ko-fi page. And if they can't afford even a one-time contribution, they can always just benefit from my writing without making any financial contribution. Thank you.
I have no clue who you are but I think you must be considerably younger than me. I grew up in the M.E. and when I came here in the early 70's the racism against all Middle Easterners, no matter what country or religion, was astounding. I was on the receiving end of it because Americans are so ignorant about the rest of the world and could not tell I was neither Arab nor Muslim. Americans had access to the facts; they just didn't fucking care about "Arabs" or "Muslims". Back then when I mentioned "Palestinian rights" every American Jew I talked to suddenly became hysterical, weeping and shrieking about "human lampshades". Unbelievable. In fact, the only "Middle Eastern" country they could locate on a map was Israel. No joke. Now with cell phones and the Internet, they cannot hide their faces in the sand and the atrocities are so extreme, even though legacy coverage of Palestinians is a hundred times WORSE than it was then. Also, there are a lot more Palestinian-Americans than there were when I first came here (or people who were willing to identify themselves as such). I'm supporting as many independent journalists as I can but my income cannot support more than a handful. Actually, the ones I support enjoy a much higher income than me and I am also a writer--just one who prefers to lower my cost of living rather than being middle class and having to mind my P's and Q's. I think all writers need to think about lowers their cost of living and telling the censors to fuck off. Will look at your "Ko-fi page", whatever that is. Obviously not as observant as I should be.
Thank you for your comment, nosey. Yes, I grew up reading Edward Said’s essays, many of which discussed subtle racism and bias against Arabs and Muslims in mainstream American and British press. He would meticulously dissect the biases and racism and tear apart the underlying assumptions of those writers and broadcasters. Contrasting those essays with the discourse on Palestine and Arabs now is like comparing apples and oranges. There is no subtlety left. The racism is overt and in many ways is, in fact, being celebrated. It is way, way worse than from the time you are talking about and the times Said wrote about.
Indeed, for someone like me there’s no other way to survive other than by drastically cutting my cost of living (not that I had it very high too begin with but still), especially after losing my stable source of income from a job where I was grossly underpaid and overworked. I don’t think I can even support one independent writer financially, I am happy that you can support multiple.
No. Your perceptions are incorrect. It was much worse in the past. In fact, I spent months in shock by how much things have changed. These demos and discussing the issue in Congress never would have happened when I was in college. Demonstrations on campus were tiny and nothing like what's happening now. And it's happening around the world. There are a lot more Palestinian immigrants now, especially those born and raised in the West, which increases non-Arabs' ability to empathize with Palestinians, and the use of cell phones for photographs, videos, and posts has changed the whole conversation. Legacy news didn't even present the Palestinian point of view then. This is why I am quite sure Palestinians are going to succeed now. You will live to see the implosion of Israel and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. As will I. The fact that you do not know what it was like in the past tells me much about your background. You need to learn about the US (and British) form of imperialism in the Middle East. You have no idea, apparently. You cannot afford to not support other writers.
The assumptions in your writing have told me a great deal. You think racism against Palestinian is much worse now than it was 50 years ago. That told me everything I needed to know. It is okay to not know something because of lack of exposure. It is not okay to close your mind to the truth. The US attitude towards Palestine has changed to a phenomenal degree. I never thought I'd see the day. As upsetting as the degree to which Israelis are revealing the true nature of their society and ideology, I am overjoyed by how much the US has changed. On the grassroots level. But even the government has changed in the sense that they don't give a damn how much we see of their mendacity and racism. The world we live in has changed so much there is tangible hope for all Palestinians--not just those living in the West Bank and Gaza (which is bigger than the Gaza Strip, I should point out--the additional part of Gaza never mentioned by Israel is the areas that they have already annexed and consider part of Israel. I think NOT.

It's difficult to even finds words to describe these horrors and the meaning in them. Your work is important.

Thank you, Bufo. Appreciate your kind words.
Excellent, thorough and accurate!

Outstanding.

You have certainly drawn a lot of conclusions from one comment where I didn't write any of the things you have written about. Amazing.
