“….. Neil Postman writes that “between 1640 and 1700, the literacy rate for men in Massachusetts and Connecticut was somewhere between 89 percent and 95 percent, quite probably the highest concentration of literate males to be found anywhere in the world at that time…..”

Underlying this is that these states contained men uncounted. Slaves who were legally and brutally barred from reading.

This sordid and unreconciled slavery, would also one clue as to why American foreign policy embraces dispossession and genocide. The shining city on the hill was a crock of lies from the start.

Last but not least I would counter with Isaac Asimov’s famous quote on America’s. deep seated anti-intellectualism:

“…… There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge…..”

THAT is the real face of the country and when you understand that, none of the rest is a surprise.

Yes, and you would be correct. Of course, these numbers neither count the natives nor the slaves. Which is why I specifically mentioned the white settlers and their progenies.

Great, empathetic post, but you got one thing wrong. Most Americans do NOT have an "excess of commitment" to the shameless hacks in the media. Polls show trust in the media is at records lows, in the 20 to 30% range.

Most of us really don't believe those assholes, though Democrat cultists still do. We get our news from a veritable plethora of other sources, including you, and make up our own minds. We just haven't figured out how to get rid of the vampires running our institutions yet.

It's more complicated than that,

US data

Overall institutions: see page 39.

Americans have low trust in all institutions, including the media

U.S. institutions: see page 7

While people distrust the media and government , they somehow trust more the business that determine what the media says and what the government does. Go figure.

Media globally: see page 57.

Holy water “though I don’t know where you can get the one which will work”, then you can also use the Sun light or light of truth, “as they are all criminals and exposed they would all end up fried”, and finally if the first two don’t work, a wooden stick can apparently be efficient into permanently eliminate the problem.

The cultic reactionary sycophancy of Vegetocratic shills could never have been more glaring as it dares to rival the progressive Trumptardation of Orange Bolshevism. This country was dumbed down on purpose (the associated NWO conspiracy here is unfortunately too complex and lengthy to elaborate right now), and the ignorant masses will soon reap the hell they enabled by their willfully continued ignorance. All of these modern useful idiots -- too frenzied-obsessed with their social media clout, lavish Starbucks orders, Netflix binge-watching sprees, etc., to hold any concern about an ongoing Holocaust funded by their taxpayer dollars -- will be remembered for their rotten selfish hypocrisies and one day eternally perish from humanity as they deserve.

All these self-pressed do-goody "compassionate" liberals, who shill for Biden nonstop with zero regard for the tens of thousands of brutalized Palestinian children, are probably the most despicable whited sepulchres of our generation.

As a nation we should be ashamed of ourselves for pushing two senile and antiquated men to go on stage in front of the world. Shame on us for putting indoctrinated and bigoted men of a bygone era on a stage as pawns as we allow corporations and saboteurs coerce our societies into accepting genocide, racism, settler colonialism, apartheid, slavery, and abuse of the marginalized and impoverished. Shame on us all for allowing the world to decay into an orgy of blood, greed, hate, and division.

You forgot Religion.

Expand full comment

Religion isn’t the problem, as with anything, it’s the authoritarian/fascist supremacists within any group that hurt everyone. I understand the desire to blame religion, but it’s people taking up extremist and supremacist views that cause all evil in the world.

"Authoritarian/facist supremacists." All Evangelical or some other racist leaning.

The way the US is going Religion IS of supreme importance.

You have a huge problem with abortion and women's rights, what is that if it is not religion +banning books.

It’s extremism and fascism. If we follow your logic, then we’d end up being as bad as the Nazis and Zionists. Not all bigots are religious and not all religions are built on fascist bigotry.

The founding fathers created the problems we face today with the 3/5th constitution that stole the 14th for corporations and allows Zionists to buy the most industrial genocide modernity can deliver so that 30 million people can be starved and displaced around the Red Sea to make the world safe for shipping carbon bombs. Postman is right as Bush the Minor said, go shopping.

Yes, I think a paragraph at the end was in order. The slave owning, and the 3/5th constitution drafters were by no means the exemplars of morality or nation building.

I hear more intelligent, reasoned and fact-based arguments from sports fans in why they support a given team than I hear from political partisans.

I don't know about sports reports/fans but I do know that the so-called American Dream was just words. After all the shopping is done and people hate the Chinese for providing them with unecessary toys where are we?

A society that didn't vote after Reagan..pushed so-called DEMOCKRACY all over the world without empathy.

Thanks for this.

My first American ancestor was a Puritan blacksmith whose father and brother were killed by the British crown and who arrived in Massachusetts in 1638 to start a new life. Now, 14 generations later, his descendants are trapped in the current catastrophe, many not even realizing it because they have been numbed and hypnotized by propaganda, lies, legal and illegal drugs, and all-pervading fear.

My Middle Eastern sources tell me that the people there are going to be taking care of the settler state, so not to worry about that.

They also tell me that it's America I should be worried about. Can this horror even survive another decade?

Somehow I doubt it.

Here's my book that tracks the decline. https://www.amazon.com/Our-Country-Then-Richard-Cook/dp/1949762858

What you neglected to mention here is RELIGION.

Puritanical religionists came over to the USA because they were damned in England.

USA has always been a puritanical/moneyed society.

Yes, I think I did write that they were fleeing religious persecution in England. If it's not there, I probably edited it out.

Today Jewish groups target few remaining Catholics, and get FBI to help. If anyone wants links I' ll supply.
